Drama Education is one of the most complex fields of aesthetic education, and makes use the means and methods of dramatic arts. This is a system of social and artistic learning for children, youth and possibly also adults, focusing on aesthetic cultivation and the Drama in Education is one of the most complex fields of aesthetic education. It explores the means and methods of dramatic arts. Drama education develops children’s (or adults’) social, artistic, and aesthetic abilities, as well as promotes personal development and pro-social behaviour.
The Bachelor’s programme in Drama in Education focuses primarily on acquiring basic experience with dramatic play activities, on developing skills in the psychosomatic disciplines and on cultivating creativity in performance and group-based activities. Courses also include a methodological component: students learn how to use the acquired knowledge and skills in teaching, especially in terms of working with children and students. Practical courses are supplemented with theoretical inputs and structured introductions to various techniques in drama education. In line with the programme’s focus on art education and working with children and youth, the Bachelor’s programme also includes modules in the pedagogical and psychological aspects of drama education, in literary theory, in history of children’s literature, and in some important chapters of drama studies.
The whole programme is complemented with step-by-step, reflective practical experience under the supervision of pedagogues, which develops students’ own methods of long-term systematic work with a group and their evaluation.
A graduate of the programme is prepared to be in charge of a drama education course at educational institutions (literary-drama programmes at primary artistic schools, elective and free-time activities at pre-schools, primary schools, secondary schools, youth centres, and other institutions providing free-time activities for children and youth), or at leisure activity centres, drama centres, cultural centres, etc.
