This research and art research institute deals with research into creation in scenic arts in the age of technical media with an emphasis on the actual process of creation and reflection on it. It guarantees doctoral studies in stage design and theory of creation in scenic arts (scenology) open to graduates of DAMU master's courses and graduates from other fields. The Institute for the Theory and History of Creation in Scenic Arts (in 2004 it was renamed the Institute for Dramatic and Scenic Art Research) was established in 2001 on the initiative of leading teachers of the Department of Theory and Criticism, the Director of which was Jaroslav Vostrý. In 2015, Prof. Zuzana Sílová became the Director of the Institute for Theory of Creation in Scenic Arts.
The Institute for Theory of Creation in Scenic Arts DAMU is a research and artistic research institute of the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (hereinafter referred to as "DAMU").
The Institute for Theory of Creation in Scenic Arts DAMU (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) was established with the transformation of the Institute for Dramatic and Scenic Art Research, established in accordance with § 24 par. 1 a) and f) of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the “Act”).

The Institute for Theory of Creation in Scenic Arts as a successor of the Institute for Dramatic and Scenic Art Research DAMU is a research institute that builds on the pedagogical and artistic research activities of DAMU, especially the Department of Dramatic Theatre and the Department of Scenography DAMU, its theoretical reflection focused on scenicity research in the age of technical media with emphasis on the very process of creation and its conditioning in the environment of general staging.

In this spirit, in accordance with the law and the internal regulations of AMU and | DAMU, the Institute provides doctoral studies following on from master's degree programmes provided by the two above-mentioned departments on a broader (scenological) basis. Doctoral study is open to master's degree graduates from DAMU, but also to graduates from other fields, whose results may be useful in developing scenology as a typical interdisciplinary field of study based not only on theoretical and historical research, but especially on research in the arts and through the art.

In its scientific (i.e. theoretical and historical) research, the Institute for Theory of Creation in Scenic Arts builds on the results of the Research Institute for Dramatic and Scenic Art Research DAMU, published in 11 volumes of the journal for the Studies of Scenic Production Disk, which was published from 2002 to 2012, and in the book edition of the same name, published since 2005 and financed by grants and institutional contributions allocated to scientific research activities.

The activities of the Institute, including its management of assets and allocated funds, are the responsibility of its Head, usually one and the same as the Chairman / Chairwoman of Doctoral Study of Scenic Art and Theory of Scenic Art, and the research activities are coordinated by his / her research representative appointed by the DAMU Dean on the proposal of the Head of the Institute approved by the Scientific Board of the Institute. The Scientific Board of the Institute is usually the same as the Board of Doctoral Studies in the given field and expanded during the discussion of individual research questions by other experts from the ranks of research participants and from practice.

At the head of the Institute is its Director, who is appointed by the Dean of DAMU after consultation with the Vice-Dean for Pedagogical Affairs and Research and the Heads of the Department of Dramatic Theatre and the Department of Scenography at DAMU. According to the law, the DAMU Academic Senate comments on this appointment.
The Head of the Institute is responsible for the organization and provision of the Institute's activities and for the management of the property and financial resources allocated to the Dean of DAMU.
The members of the Scientific Board are appointed by the Dean of DAMU on the proposal of the Head of the Institute from among the researchers of individual research projects and other experts; the Vice-Dean for Pedagogical Affairs and Scientific Research and the Head of the Department of Dramatic Theatre and the Department of Scenography at DAMU are, by their position, members of the Scientific Board.

The Institute’s Producer is usually entrusted with ensuring the organizational-technical and material basis of the Institute's activities, and he or she cooperates on this mainly with the relevant clerks of the Dean's Office, DAMU, the Faculty Secretary and the Vice-Dean for Pedagogical Affairs and Research.
The Statute of the Institute for Dramatic and Scenic Art Research of DAMU of the 13th of June, 2001 is repealed.
The Academic Senate of DAMU stated pursuant to § 27, par. 1 a) of the Act consent to the change of name of the Institute and several of its tasks on the 7th of April, 2015.
This Statute shall enter into force on the 1st of June, 2015.
