Bachelor’s Degree Programme

Applicant Requirements:

Good physical and psychological condition. Good condition as regards talent and character, and these should be capable of further development and cultivation. It is necessary to have a need for learning and a capacity of learning, for studying, and for partaking in teamwork.

We test the prospective student's degree of talent, and their ability for development, in the foundation disciplines of psychosomatic study, especially voice, speech and movement. Further, we test the ability to distinguish between different parts of acting on stage, the ability to consciously act in a playful way, the ability to act together with someone else, the ability to react authentically, the ability to improvise (these are the ability requirements for the study of acting). Last but not least, the ability to formulate authorial ideas is also important (authorial texts). 

The presence of all of these skills in and of itself does not guarantee an authorial character, however, and this is why it is necessary to conduct an interview as part of the application procedure. (The subjects addressed here are the prospective student's motivation for study, their general knowledge of culture, art, philosophy, public social and current affairs.) This allows an assessment of the character and character potential of the individual. There is usually just a single round of entrance exams, and they take place in English. 

Mandatory annexes to application and course of their delivery:

The candidates must submit the documents mandatory for entire faculty (CV with photography and certificate of completed secondary education). Above these, the candidates for this study programme must submit, together with the application, by uploading directly to the electronic application, the following documents:  

• letter of motivation (including the reasons why they have chosen the programme of Authorial Acting; a reflection of their practical experience to date; and a vision of their future professional activities), 
• 2 authorial texts written by the candidate in English of maximum 3 pages each (all kinds of texts are welcome except for lyrical poems), 
• recent portrait photography included in CV.

The course of the entrance examination:

a) Number of rounds: Entrance examinations consist of only one round.

b) Time span: 1 day.

c) Form of the entrance examination: In person or online. 

Content of the entrance examination and assessment criteria:

1. two authorial texts (i.e. written by the applicant) sent in advance – examination of originality and linguistic and literary level of the text, as well as the degree of imagination and attentiveness of the author, maximum 10 points,
2. movement discipline – identification of movement aptitudes, maximum 10 points, 
3. voice discipline – examination of vocal and aural abilities, interconnectedness of voice and movement, the candidate prepares at least two folk songs of a different character (slow and fast), maximum 10 points,  
4. speech discipline - examination of speech aptitudes, especially in terms of logic, expression and communicative ability, the candidate will prepare two prose texts (not their own, not a dramatic monologue!) for recitation by heart, one text max. of about half a page, maximum 10 points,  
5. the discipline of acting propaedeutics and dramatic play - the candidate will perform simple improvisations and variations (detecting imagination, sense of the whole and detail, sense of atmosphere, mood, ability to change, etc.), maximum 10 points, 
6. interview (relating to the candidate's motivation, their orientation towards culture, art, philosophy, social events and personality), maximum 10 points.  

The maximum number of points that can be obtained is 60, and applicants who obtain at least 40 points can be admitted.    

The highest number of applicants accepted for study:

DAMU sets the maximum number of applicants admitted to study in this study programme. The number of applicants admitted to the programme may be lower than the maximum number if the number of applicants who have fulfilled the admission requirements is lower. If a larger number of applicants meet the admission requirements, applicants up to the highest number will be admitted in order of preference.

Medical fitness:  

Not required for admission to this programme of study.

SHORT TERM STUDIES

Short term students can apply any time but they can only begin at the academic beginning of a semester. Students must take a minimum of 8 credits (4 classes) per semester.
Tuition fee per 1 credit: 4 840 CZK.
