DISK Theatre

About DISK

DISK theatre has been part of the theatre faculty of AMU since its establishment in 1946. It was originally located in the Unitaria Palace at Karlova street 5. When DISK was forced to move out of the building in the 1990s, student shows were performed temporarily in Celetná theatre.

However, due to limited capacities of this theatre, the academy built its own stage in January 1999. The new DISK theatre is located inside the faculty’s buildings between the Karlova 26 and  Řetězová 5 buildings. This elegant solution of integrating a new modern structure into the Old Town historical architecture was designed by one of Czech republic’s most prominent architects Karel Hubáček. It is a must-see for all modern architecture enthusiasts.

What is noticeable about DISK’s repertory is its versatility – it ranges from classic titles through absurd plays to dramatic theatres with puppetry and multimedia elements. Visitors are guaranteed an all-round exceptional experience, not only because of DISK’s original artistic selection, but also due to its location in the centre of Old Town and its affordable prices (usual price 120 Kč, concessions 80 Kč). A cherry on top is the cozy adjacent café KAFE DAMU.

Tickets can be booked or bought on DISK theatre’s website or booked via email, phone or fax during weekdays from 9.30 to 17.00. Unpaid reservations are automatically cancelled 24 h before the show.
