INVITE TO LECTURE AND DISCUSSION
PERFORMANCE AND CARE –
FROM ‘CARE ETHICS AND THE ARTS’TO ‘CARE AESTHETICS’
Professor James Thompson will speak about his new workon the concept of ‘care aesthetics’ – that is how theexperience of care has embodied, sensory and craftedelements. While this idea can be applied to the work of ahealth care worker, a museum curator or a choreographer, the talk will discuss the relation between care aestheticsand socially engaged theatre. How might theatrepractitioners create experiences of care in their work? What are the implications for theatre projects withparticipants and the communities in which they live? Afocus on care, and how it might become better crafted andmore equitable, has become even more urgent in light ofthe inequalities in care made more apparent by the Covidpandemic.
